Hi Soozie,
Sadly I need to point out I was in fact saying that Moodle was NOT a Magic flying Unicorn leading you across a rainbow made of earth shattering new paradigms to set worlds of pedagogical glory.
It is in fact a rather utilitarian Horse drawn cart. The admin can make the cart look fantastic and the teacher is at the front setting the direction and fills the cart with all the cool ideas, activities and resources that they need to. The Moodle horse is powerful enough to take you anywhere you want to go, but just how exciting and useful your cart is up to the driver. The direction you take is up to the driver. The pedagogy used comes not from the horse...but the driver.
Plus, Admins who restrict how the cart can be used, the direction it can travel and the speed in which they are allowed to use it are often the biggest stalling points on the journey.
Trust me..the analogy made more sense if you came to the session.

Hey Julian, your analogy works really well for me (great image as well).
Our admin has definitely restricted how fast we can go, although I think it is because he doesn't really understand the pedagogy behind it. I think most of the people at school that implemented the school getting moodle saw it as this wondrous thing but don't understand that it is going to take a lot of work to have teachers using it effectively and beyond pump and dump. I will be re-using your analogy!!
